Chantilly Castle & Chantilly Stables
Château de Chantilly was built in the 15th century for the Montmorency family. Over time and through marriage, the property passed to the princes of Condé, cousins of the Bourbon kings. Upon his death in 1897, the last owner, Henri Eugène Philippe Louis d’Orléans, duc d’Aumale, bequeathed the property to the Institut de France.
Today, the château houses the Musée Condé, one of the finest art galleries in France. See the excellent collection that includes a fine representation of French paintings.
The astonishing library owns a Gutenberg Bible, illustrations from the 15th and 16th centuries and thousands of manuscripts and books.
Take a carriage ride around the grounds. The park was designed by André Le Nôrte, who also designed the park at Versailles.
It features a beautiful French landscape garden with a waterfall, pavilions and a fantasy rustic village, the Hameau de Chantilly. This village was the inspiration for Le Nôrtes Hamlet of the Queen at Versailles.
